Lance may only be 21years old, but his achievements are way beyond his years. He is not only a Workshop Facilitator and Club Mentor, he took on the directorship of Techspace Learning and the Club in 2024 when our founder had to step down for personal reasons. He has completed a Bachelor of Information Technology (Network & Cybersecurity Systems) and is now looking to start some post-graduate studies. In his words, “The club gave me a creative outlet and opportunities to socialise with others who understood me. I was homeschooled and the club allowed me to have long lasting friendships and push myself to new heights“.

Heath is an original member of the club as his father is the founder of the original Hallett Cove Robotics Club. Now at age 24, he is a Workshop Facilitator and Club Mentor and is currently studying a double degree in Bachelor of Computer Science & Robotics Engineering with Honours—which he is expected to finish halfway through next year. In his words, “While there is a club, I will show up and do my best to pay it forward to new members who may also be a little socially awkward as I was when I was younger. The club has given me opportunities to learn how to push through my shyness and interact with the public. This has been most helpful in my workplace as well“.

Hugh is a much loved Workshop Facilitator and Club Mentor. A lecturer at the University of South Australia, Hugh holds double degrees in Software Engineering and Electronics Engineering, along with a PhD in Engineering Education. In his words “I love running workshops and sharing my knowledge and just having loads of fun! I have a lot of fun mentoring at the club as well and love spending time with like-minded people“.

Noah is an upcoming Facilitator and respected Club Mentor, and student at University of Adelaide. At 20 years old, he is currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with Honours and Computer Science. In his words, “While I didn’t find ACRC until I was a little older, I very quickly realised how absolutely mind-boggling earth-shattering brain-blowingly awesome ACRC was… These were people like me, and I loved spending time with them because they understood me!!”

Kien, now 19, started his robotics journey with a Techspace introductory workshop and he was hooked! His interest continued to grow when he attended all the workshops on offer and creating his own projects at the club. He now is an assistant at workshops, a regular volunteer at science exhibits and mentors at the club when his schedule allows. Kien is currently studying double degrees in Mechanical Engineering (Honours), with a Bachelor of Computer Science. In his words, “I particularly liked how the learning started off with very simple, easy to understand code concepts that could be easily grasped, and how I could quickly move into more advanced concepts. This gave me a solid understanding which has made uni studies much easier.”

Sebastian is 16 years old and is an upcoming workshop facilitator . He has been with the club since he was 9 years old and is a valued Club Mentor. In his words, “ACRC changed my life after my father passed away from brain cancer. The club gave me opportunities to find my passion in coding and robotics and this would not have come about without the leaders from the club. I love being able to give back by mentoring and I look forward to being able to run workshops myself and teach what I have learnt“.

Jayden is a remarkable young man who achieved so much in his 22 years. He is a workshop assistant and Club Mentor. He completed a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honors in Geology and is he soon to begin his PhD. With a difficult start in life, he overcome a challenging upbringing and family life to not only completing high school and a university degree, he also ran for local council, is decision maker within the Mars Society and will be starting his PhD later this year.

Reilly learnt how to code the Arduino by attending Online Courses with Techspace Learning during the lockdown times and due to him living in a regional area. He quickly adopted the technology and will assist in workshops when they are offered in his region. He is also a regular volunteer at Science Show exhibits such as Science Alive and the Royal Adelaide Show. An article was written about him in 2022 and you can read his story here…
